In the small town of Romano d'Ezzelino, near Venice, Italy, over a hundredartisans work daily to create individual furniture pieces that are veritable works of art.
The finished pieces, whether beautifully inlaid writing desks or meticulously carved secretaries, travel the world over to rest in the elegant hotels and luxurious palaces of exotic places like the Grand Hyatt Erawan in Bangkok, the Four Seasons Hotel in Berlin, the Breaker’s Hotel in Palm Beach, and the St.Regis in Rome.
The fine Italian craftsmen are part of Francesco Molon, a family-owned business dedicated to the revival of furniture artistry in classical European style.
Started in 1966 by Francesco Molon and a handful of highly skilled artisans, Francesco Molon has succeeded in capturing the rich tradition of ancient techniques and furniture mastery for presentation in today’s marketplace.
Now run by both Francesco Molon and his sons, the company remains committed to the timeless fine design and functionality that enables furniture to be passed through generations.
Francesco Molon searches throughout the world for the highest-grade materials, superb veneers, refined burls, exotic rosewoods and ebony. Highly skilled in painting, marquetry and the meticulous applications of gold leaf, artisans replicate age-old techniques to create near signature pieces preferred by high-end designers world wide.
“Our artisans combine passion and manual dexterity with precision”, says Roberto Molon, Francesco’s son and current Managing Director, “Their artistry is evidenced in tenons and mortises, in dovetails“. Currently celebrating its 40th anniversary, Francesco Molon’s mission is to use this treasured craftsmanship to achieve perfect products, hand-done, in the old tradition.
Francesco Molon manufactures six distinct, elegant collections specially designed to satisfy a wide range of tastes and needs:
- The 18th Century collection is a unique blend of antique and specially crafted elegant furnishings in the English period tradition.
- The New Empire collection includes true reproductions in the Russian and French Empire Style.
- The Italian & French Country collection groups Italian and European “country” furniture that is neither heavy nor rustic, but features the elegant simplicity indicative of fine rural estates.
- The Executive collection includes distinguished office and library furnishing with concentration on functionality and exquisite woods. It also includes architectural elements such as doors and ceiling panelling.
- Upholstery collection exemplifies how the harmony of wood and the elegance of fine fabrics are married in unmatched beauty.
- Kitchen collection offers the finest custom cabinetry designed to individual specifications.
Francesco Molon, thanks to its growth in the international marketplace, has concentrated its commercial efforts in the opening of branches in the USA, Mexico, Russia, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Moreover, its first American retail operation was recently opened near Naples, Florida at the International Design Center.
The company’s craftsmen work in the Italian production centre, which is a neo-classical facility personally designed by Francesco Molon. A portion of the facility – and the workforce – is devoted to the arts of colour, carving, inlay, painting, and the details of gold leaf. “Often carvings are used decoratively,“ says Molon, “and, our craftsmen still create them by hand. They use the same techniques that were used hundreds of years ago. Veneers are still worked in the old ways and hand finished”.
